Renowned Filipino bag designer Rocio Olbes will be the guest judge in the next (3rd) episode of the new season of Project Runway Philippines. For those who didn't know who Olbes is, she is the creative director of Rocio Ltd., which produces unconventional, fashionable and eclectic collection of bags which are mostly made from the Philippines.
Just recently, this genius Filipina designer was featured as a Voguette [featuring young women who have made a mark on the fashion and arts scene] in Vogue Italia website. In the feature, she talks about her style and work as the Creative Director of the UK-based bag line.
here's the full feature:
Born in 1985, Rocio Olbes has Hispanic-Filipino origins and was born and raised in Manila.
She talks about Asia as the "place to be today" – a cosmopolitan, bubbling, exciting and forward-looking continent.
She started working in the fashion industry as accessory designer a little by chance despite having always nurtured a strong passion for fashion.
Rocio is beautiful and radiant; she is comfortable in front of the camera and talks with a faultless English accent presumably perfected during her studies abroad and thanks to her love for travelling.
Her style is classic and elegant (her style icon being Audrey Hepburn and Grace Kelly); she loves vintage and Filipino fashion although she admits having a soft-fashion – spot for Valentino and Elie Saab.
Her passion for classic timeless elegance is mirrored in her line of handbags “ROCIO” featuring unique, hand-crafted pieces made with natural materials such as wood, a trademark of her collections.
Rocio describes herself as a visual person who, for her creations, draws inspiration from an array of sources including her travelling, cinema and paintings.
Behind Rocio’s doll-like appearance there’s a woman endowed with great creativity and a sharp flair for business which led her to launch her first collection in London already five years ago.
If she weren’t living in Manila, another city she particularly loves is Rome, most likely because that’s where her boyfriend comes from.
Rocio offers us an insight into Asian fashion which, whilst being interesting and exciting, is an area we still know little about.
